Mission, Vision & Values
Mission
MoCoPAAN’s mission is to defend and promote racial equity and social justice for and by Asian American communities through public policy advocacy, community education, and narrative change.
Vision

We imagine a healthy, thriving, and resilient County where residents’ contributions are valued, their histories are preserved and celebrated, and their needs are addressed.

In our vision, Asian Americans are organized, consistently and proactively, around progressive policy.

Asian American community-serving organizations are sufficiently funded, coming together around a shared, pan-Asian policy platform.

With this strong foundation, Asian Americans work alongside solidarity allies to advance racial equity and social justice for all.

Values
We are a stronger society when we actively work to embrace, support, and provide equal opportunity for people of all backgrounds.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
As of 2022, over two-thirds of Asian Americans in Montgomery County are foreign-born. We defend all immigrants’ rights to dignity, safety, and due process, as well as their ability to thrive as essential parts of our local community.
Immigrant Rights
Asian Americans are not a monolith. We advocate for disaggregated data, outreach in languages that target audiences understand and use culturally-competent delivery, and research to understand our community’s diverse needs.
Data-Driven Advocacy
We reject ideas of Asian Americans as silent, apolitical, or model minorities.
Our community has a rich, complex history as political actors in the U.S. — one we must uplift to our community and the general public alike.
Narrative Change
We recognize anti-Blackness as the cornerstone of systemic racism, situating our work within the broader racial landscape of this county and beyond. Allyship with other marginalized groups is not just a priority, but structures the entirety of our work.
